It's me, Laura...

My name is Laura McMahon and I am one half of this incredible adventure called The Guild. You know when you know you are onto something really good? The universe places amazing people in front of you who can help make your vision a reality! Well, right after I met Emily, my partner, we both decided that one day we would open a store where we could not only offer our individual brands but also connect them with our favorite fair trade, sustainable and handmade products worldwide, giving them a platform into a wider audience.

My path begins in Colombia, where I was born and raised. After graduating with a BS in Electrical Engineering, my desire to travel made me move in the US, where I carved my own path, forging a strong career as an engineer, designing and testing circuit boards for Aircrafts, and building a family with my husband, Jim, and our two children. Motherhood made me more in tune with my roots and what it means to give back. And what do you know? Working with an indigenous community in La Guajira, Colombia with my brand SUSU Accessories and being a part of a fair trade business gave me a passion like no other! Now with The Guild, I get to infuse my professional skills with my passion for sustainable fashion. I have found immense fulfillment in assisting communities of artisans, artists, up and coming designers and creators. Helping them achieve the means to live in a dignified manner, without compromising their cultural heritage and in earning recognition for their artisanal masterpieces is so gratifying…and this is just the beginning…

When we opened The Guild, we didn’t know if the idea would resonate with customers and partners alike, but we believed in it and dove right in and the response has been incredible!

Most people want options, one of a kind finds, support original art and be kinder to our planet. The Guild offers a space for the conscious shopper looking for high end fashion, art, wellness, home and body products, made with sustainable and Fair Trade practices. The Guild makes ethically shopping a new kind of retail experience and allows small business owners with socially conscious brands to be showcased. It also serves to educate everyday shoppers about the Fair Trade principles, environmentally friendly products and how to be sustainable with their purchases.
